What You Will Study

The course will teach you the skills you need to succeed in this rapidly growing field. You will learn about the principles of digital infrastructure and networking, as well as the practical skills needed to design, install, and maintain digital networks. You will also have the opportunity to specialize in one or more areas of digital infrastructure and networking, such as cloud computing, data center operations, or network security.

Here are some specific topics you will learn about on a level 3 digital infrastructure and networking course using BTEC Extended Diploma ICT modules:

  • Digital infrastructure: You will learn about the different components of digital infrastructure, such as servers, routers, and switches. You will also learn about the principles of networking, such as routing, switching, and addressing.
  • Network security: You will learn about the different threats to network security, such as malware, phishing, and social engineering. You will also learn about the different security measures that can be taken to protect networks, such as firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and data encryption.
  • Cloud computing: You will learn about the different cloud computing platforms, such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP). You will also learn about the benefits and challenges of cloud computing.
  • Data center operations: You will learn about the different aspects of data center operations, such as facility design, cooling, and power. You will also learn about the importance of data center security.

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • How You Will Be Assessed

    Written assignments and practical observations/tasks, external (exams), internal (assignments) and synoptic (projects) and some units are externally assessed via online exams.

  • Entry Requirements

    5 GCSEs at Grade 9-4, including English or Maths.
    OR
    Relevant Level 2 at Merit Grade, plus English and Maths at a minimum of Level 2.

  • Further Study

    On completion with the appropriate pass plus English and Maths grades, you can progress through the levels, you can then progress to Higher Education to study for an HNC/D, Foundation Degree or BA/BSc degree in a range of disciplines at Wakefield College or a centre of your choice.
