Mechanics’ Performing Arts dance students have been donning the famous ‘postie’ uniform to feature in Royal Mail’s latest video.
Working alongside Royal Mail as part of their social media campaign for Valentine’s Day, dance tutor Louise Wilkins and her HE Dance students worked to choreograph and star in the video that will head the campaign.
Sarah, Social Media Executive at Royal Mail said “For our Valentine’s Day campaign, we wanted to produce an exciting film featuring dance to remind everyone of the role we play in delivering on Valentine’s Day. We approached Mechanics' Performing Arts because of its excellent reputation for high-quality teaching. The energy, talent, and professionalism from the students was exceptional, and the result is a film that showcases the connected way in which our network delivers to over 30 million addresses across the country, 6 days per week.”
The shoot, which took weeks of preparation and rehearsal, was filmed at a variety of locations across Wakefield including the Chantry Bridge, Crown Court and the newly refurbished Gaskell’s Restaurant in the College’s Beaumont building.
Dance tutor Louise Wilkins said: “The Royal Mail video was such a great project to be involved in! Our students are currently working on commercial activities and this project enabled us to work on and be part of a fantastic live brief with an actual client. This gave our HE students a real flavour of working on a set and on location as well as working to tight deadlines in delivering the client’s requirements.”

The dance courses available at Mechanics’ Performing Arts are a brilliant pathway into the industry and often include various opportunities to get involved with outside projects.
The department is open for potential students and visitors at this month’s Open Event on 26th February 5 till 7pm.
