For those aspiring to own or manage their own Hair and Beauty salon, Selby College has expanded its higher-level student offering with a brand-new course in Salon Management.
Designed to provide adult students with the management and technical skills required to become a successful Hair and Beauty Salon Manager, the programme is ideal for those who are looking to manage or own a beauty business.
Available from September 2021, the VTCT Level 4 Diploma in Salon Management covers all of the required elements to work effectively as a Salon Manager, or as the first step towards a degree-level qualification.
The course covers management aspects including quality of client care, sales and health, safety and security in the salon. Students will also be able to further develop their knowledge and understanding of marketing and public relations in the Hair and Beauty sector to help promote their salon and its services.
“For those who aspire to own or run their own Hair and Beauty salon, it’s vital they have a good understanding of the industry itself and what they will need to manage within their day-to-day role. This programme has been developed to provide students with a grounding in all aspects of salon management, from client care to sales and promotion.
“That is why it is perfect for those who want to know what it takes to run a successful beauty business or want to deepen their industry knowledge before progressing to a degree-level qualification. What is also great is the flexibility of the course, which means that you are able to study whilst working in the industry or around other commitments – providing a significant stepping stone for learners,” said Ally Dallimore, Programme Leader.
After completing Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy courses at Selby College, a number of former students have gone on to own or manage their own salons.
In Selby alone, three salons are owned by former students Billy Earl (Clark and Me), Hannah Stagg and Lucy Bannister (Blossom Down Finkle Street, Natalie Hunter (Hunters Hair Salon) and Sarah Bloom (Blooming Beauty).
The VTCT Level 4 Diploma in Salon Management is 34 weeks long and will be held on campus on a Monday, from 9:15am until 5pm. Most students will be eligible for an Advanced Learner Loan to help cover the cost of the course.
