The Wakefield College Get SET programme usually offers substantial work placements to students for on-the-job learning. Unfortunately, within the past year, this hasn’t been possible and so the students have instead been working hard on enterprise activities to practice their employability skills. The students made and sold chocolate Christmas wreaths back in December with over 40 orders raising £70.
Last week they donated the money to the Wakefield College Student Crisis Fund. The Wakefield College Student Crisis Fund is there to help any student who is struggling financially who may need help to buy essentials like food, toiletries etc.
The Get SET programme is a work-based learning programme for young people who have had high levels of academic support in school or College. The course aims to help students develop independence and employability skills through work experience opportunities, spending a significant amount of time working with local employers or community groups, fully supported by a Job Coach. The programme focuses on developing employability skills and is designed to ensure the students are confident about going into the workplace to help them gain employment, voluntary work or progress on to a further training programme.
