Yesterday, Wakefield College held a T Levels Team development day for all staff involved in managing and delivering the brand-new T Level qualifications to be introduced from September 2021. Corinne Barker Director of Curriculum welcomed guest speakers, Ian Thompson from ETF who gave us insight into the findings from other providers who are currently delivering these new qualifications, and Julie Hyde, Director of External and Regulatory Affairs at NCFE, who discussed the Government Skills and post 16 Education Bill and its relevance to T Levels.
T Levels are a new Government-backed option for School Leavers that combine classroom theory and practical learning, with a minimum of 315 hours’ industry placement. Heads of curriculum, tutors delivering courses, Hayley Shilito and the work placement team, Terri Holt from marketing, and Mathew Staples and the high-performance team all contributed to what was an extremely successful day.
As well as receiving Wakefield College T-Level branded flipflops, everyone was treated to a delicious 3-course lunch from Wakefield College’s training restaurant, Gaskells, which was prepared and served by Level 1 and 2 Hospitality & Catering students.
The 2-year T Level courses have been developed in collaboration with subject and industry experts, ensuring the content will meet the needs of industry and thoroughly prepare students for working life. T Levels provide the knowledge and experience needed to open the door to highly skilled employment, a higher apprenticeship, or entry to university. From September 2021, Wakefield College will be delivering T Levels in Education and Childcare, Digital Support Services and Construction and the Built Environment.
