Jigsaws Childcare is a full day nursery for children aged three months to preschool but we also provide before and after school care and holiday club activities throughout the year. Our meals are made fresh onsite everyday. We have a very busy kitchen environment serving breakfast, snacks, lunch and tea to around 50 children everyday.

Apprenticeship summary

What will the apprentice be doing?

• On arrival you will be part of the kitchen opening checks
• you will help prepare and distribute breakfast to the different teaching rooms.
• Help in preparing the lunch for children, support the kitchen team to make sure allergy and intolerances are catered for.
• help distribute the food to each room and help serve food to our older preschool children.
• interacting with children aged 3 to 4 and encouraging them to try new food and eat the food on their plates.
• help collect plates and cutlery from each room again make sure that they are cleaned.
• help start to prepare teas for the children, this will vary depending on if they have full teas or high tea.
• kitchen closing checks which will involve a clean down of equipment. 
• be involved in preparing a week menu following budgetary constraints and portion control.
• help with food deliveries and food rotation. 

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

You will complete L2 Food Production qualification at the Heart of Yorkshire Education Group. Training will be delivered in the workplace.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

We do intend that this would become a permanent position as we are intending to extend our provision in the next 18 months.

Things to consider

You will be working outdoors at times, heavy lifting with food deliveries, requirement to be flexible if other members of the kitchen team are off.

About the employer

We are a full daycare nursery and before and after school club. We care for children aged three months to eleven years with a mixture of abilities and needs. We are open all year from 7.30am until 6pm.
