We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic in learning about welding and fabrication. To whom we can pass on a vast knowledge of experience to with the aim of guiding someone to be proficient and confident to take on all aspects of fabrication welding to a high standard.

Apprenticeship summary

What will the apprentice be doing?

Following your induction, you will be introduced to the workshop, the team and facilities. Once you have your PPE you will start on the shop floor.

Initially, depending on experience and confidence, you will be asked to observe, listen and assist your mentor. You will be given small tasks to carry out for us to gague your confidence and ability.

You will also have segments where you will be given a task to practice certain aspects of fabrication welding. This may include the following : -

  • Pattern development
  • Making out
  • Assembly
  • Welding
  • Initiative 

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

You will work towards the Level 2 Engineering operative apprenticeship on the fabrication welding pathway.

You will complete a L2 Diploma in Engineering skills in your first year and a L2 certificate in engineering operations knowledge in your second year.

You will attend Castleford College on day release.

 

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

For the right candidate there is the opportunity to progress to being a fabricator welder on our team on a respectable salary.

Things to consider

There will potentially be site work involved. All aspects of safety still apply that we have within the workshop. This will be a good experience for the apprentice to see where some fabricated products are designed for, enhancing their scope on use of certain materials and reasons for them. It will also develop other skills, such as, problem solving and site procedures. It may be that a site job may run over standard finish time in order to complete the works. In this instance the apprentice will receive an increased rate for overtime.
