What You Will Study

You will need to achieve 11 mandatory units plus optional units.

The mandatory units are:

  • Communication and professional relationships with children, young people and adults
  • Schools as organisations
  • Support learning activities
  • Promote children and young people’s positive behaviour
  • Develop professional relationships with children, young people and adults
  • Promote equality, diversity and inclusion in work with children and young people
  • Support assessment for learning
  • Engage in personal development in health, social care or children and young people’s settings
  • Support children and young people's health and safety
  • Understand child and young person development
  • Understand how to safeguard the wellbeing of children and young people
  • Attendance Expectations

    You will have regular tutorials and one-to-ones with your assessor.

  • How You Will Be Assessed

    You will be allocated an assessor who will guide you to complete a portfolio of evidence building evidence from knowledge and understanding to practical tasks.

  • Entry Requirements

    There are no formal entry requirements, but you will need to have sufficient language and literacy skills to be able to achieve the qualification.

    Since this qualification is assessed in the workplace, you need to be employed or have voluntary position within a school setting that offers you suitable experience and the chance to demonstrate the necessary skills.

    You may be able to progress to a Foundation Degree in Teaching and Learning Support.
