Selby College hosted its first Employer Forum on Friday 24th February, helping to tackle skills gaps and sector demands in the Construction industry.
The Forum provided an opportunity for organisations across the sector to meet to discuss the current skills needs and pressures within the industry, which will help to align Selby College’s curriculum.
Attendees were able to find out more about how they can support young people in training and entering the Construction industry, as well as how Selby College can support businesses with their training needs via its work placement, T Levels, Apprenticeships, Higher Education and part-time adult programmes.
The event was attended by a range of organisations, including CITB, Kier Highways, Selby Council, Yess Electrical and VolkerRail.
Suzanne Black, Head of Construction at the Heart of Yorkshire Education Group said: “Thank you to the organisations that attended our first Construction Employer Forum. Bridging the gap between those working within the construction industry and an education provider like ourselves is vital to the continued success and future of the sector. It enables these organisations to paint a true picture of what it’s like on the ground within the industry, whether that’s the challenges they’re currently facing, where they’re lacking key skills or even their plans to expand their operations or move into new technologies. This information enables us to align our shape our curriculum to their needs, ensuring they have the skilled workforce to continue to grow and innovate. The feedback from the event was extremely positive and we look forward to welcoming organisations from every corner of the construction sector to our next Forum in June.”
