What is Eduroam?
Eduroam allows students and staff from participating institutions to obtain free Internet connectivity. Connect once at College and you can seamlessly roam across campus and when visiting other participating institutions by simply switching on your device.
Eduroam is available to all members of Wakefield College; both staff and students.
Connecting to Eduroam is easy – when selecting the Eduroam option from a list of available WiFi networks, you will be prompted for your College username and password. For more information see the section connecting to Eduroam.
Wherever you see Eduroam appear in your list of WiFi networks, you can get online.
How does it work?
Eduroam’s secure and privacy-preserving technology means that there is no need to enter usernames and passwords through insecure web browser forms. Your device will identify a valid Eduroam access point and log-in automatically. Your password is never shared with any of the access points.
Your password for your online identity is provided to you by your ‘home’ institution – where you are enrolled in study or are employed.

Eduroom Service
At Wakefield College we offer both Home and Visitor Eduroam services. This essentially means that our staff and students will be able to connect to the Eduroam WiFi network on premises and at other participating institutions all around the UK and abroad.
It also means that visitors to our campus will be able to connect directly to our WiFi without the need for a username and password from us, they simply walk into college and their device will automatically connect to our wireless. Below is a brief description of both services.
Home Service
The home service relates to our staff and students being able to connect to Eduroam and gain access to the wireless network. The wireless network around college will be broadcasted as “Eduroam” so when a user brings in their laptop or wants to connect to the wireless they will need to select Eduroam. It also means that when a staff member or student visits another Eduroam enabled institution they will automatically be connected to the wireless network there, no fuss and no hassle!
To learn how to connect to Eduroam see the section Connecting to Eduroam.
Visited Service
If you are visitor to Wakefield college and you are from a participating Eduroam organisation you can connect to our wireless network automatically without the need to ask us for a username and password.
Visitors will connect automatically if they already connected to the wireless network ‘Eduroam’ while at their home institution but if they haven’t connected before they will need to select the network Eduroam on their device and connect to it using their normal credentials from their institution.
